Huawei’s Kirin 970 reportedly beats SD 845 SoC

We often keep asking — how fast is the latest Qualcomm or Samsung or Apple chipset? Generally, we refer to scores accumulated by several benchmarking platforms. Up until now, we know that Apple’s latest A11 Bionic SoC is presently the most powerful mobile chipset in the market, followed by those from Samsung and Qualcomm. However, Qualcomm’s SoC is used by several OEMs and therefore, it becomes necessary to keep a tab on the Qualcomm’s flagship processor. But it seems that their latest flagship SoC is under threat from Huawei’s Kirin 970.
Latest reports on the web have been showing a benchmark score of the Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, released on Weibo. The screenshot of the benchmark app shows that the Kirin 970 chipset has managed score 213258, which is pretty high. In fact, Android Headlines claims that this score is around 7 per cent more than what the Snapdragon 845 managed to score on the same benchmark test. No other detail has been revealed as of now.
While benchmark scores often tell half the story, it clearly shows that Huawei has worked really hard to optimise the chipset for better management of resources. However, this isn’t an official test, which means that the test conditions could not ideal for getting the score. After all, a fast chipset is of no use if the software can’t take advantage of it in the long run. Huawei’s chips are primarily meant to work with Huawei’s software ecosystem, similar to Samsung’s Exynos and Apple’s Aseries SoCs. On the other hand, Qualcomm is just a supplier of chips to most manufacturers with varying hardware as well as software. Therefore, it depends on the manufacturer as to how to take advantage of the extremely powerful chipsets through their software. We can only get to know the superiority of these chips once the 2018 flagships start arriving in the market. The Snapdragon 845 is slated to debut on Xiaomi’s flagship offering early next year.
