‘ I AM REALLY NICE AS A HOST’

It is common knowledge that Shah Rukh Khan came down to the land of dreams to make it big in Bollywood. So much so that he is a favourite when it comes to hosting award shows. At a recent event, SRK revealed that he was very much a fan of watching these shows. “When I was growing up in Delhi, I remember watching bits of award shows on television — it was overwhelming. I didn’t know then if I wanted to be actor or not. But I had the desire that someday I’ll reach a position where I will earn as much love from the people.”

Shah Rukh recalls, “After coming to Mumbai it was still difficult for me to get a pass to these functions since my films hadn’t released. Hum bahaut piche khade hoke dekh rahe the ( I would stand right at the back of the audience and watch the shows.) The idea was always to be on this stage.”

Today, who does he think is a good host? “I don’t think anybody is better than me,” he states matter of factly, adding, “I am impromptu, I am handsome. If there is an important award for the best host, I think I should get it. Everyone is nice, but I am really nice.”

Speaking about awards, after winning accolades and recognition for his craft, how much do these awards matter today? “I have always liked awards, but not because it is an exercise to convince myself. When I participated in sports, giving the best was important. Undeniably, after working so hard, holding a trophy meant a lot to me. That feeling has stayed with me,” he remarks.
