Leaderships to be put to test in UP this year

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

As the countdown begins for the Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh slips into a new era that will be ruled by the new generation in politics.

This year, all major political parties will have new and young leadership, most of them in their forties, who will lead their parties into the next general elections. The new political equations will also be decided by these leaders.

The SP is now fully in control of its president Akhilesh Yadav. In the 2017 Assembly elections, the party was in a state of turmoil with the tussle over leadership touching a crescendo. There was uncertainty over the future of the party, candidates were being tossed around and the campaign did not have campaigners.

Mr Akhilesh Yadav, 44, now is in full control of his party having completely sidelined his father Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle Shivpal Yadav and their supporters. His word is now command in the party that has no room for detractors.

In the true sense of the term, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will put Mr Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership skills to test and the result will give a glimpse of his party’s future.

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said, “Mr Yadav is the undisputed leader in the party and a mass leader. He need not prove his skills but the 2019 polls will elevate him to the level of a national leader”.
