-

Los Angeles, Jan. 8: The awards season kicked off on Sunday night with Hollywood stars wearing black to honor victims of sexual abuse on the Golden Globes’ red carpet, and Oprah Winfrey bringing the audience to their feet with a powerful speech as she accepted the Cecil B. Oprah Winfrey, Sterling K. Brown, and Aziz Ansari were also some of the first- timers who were honoured at the Golden Globe Awards.

◗ The red carpet at the Golden Globes was dominated by one colour — black. Actresses wore black gowns in support of the Time’s Up movement, standing in solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment.

Winfrey is the first African- American woman to be honoured with the Cecil B DeMille Award, and Brown created history as he became the first African- American to win a Golden Globe in the Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama category, for his performance as Randall Pearson in This Is Us.

Ansari, the Indian- origin actor, is the first man of Asian descent to bag the trophy in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series Musical/ Comedy category. He won it for his role in The Master of None.

The 75th Golden Globes also ended the dry spell for many recognised names such as Gary Oldman and Frances McDormand.

Oldman won his first Globe as the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama, for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. And McDormand took home the trophy for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
