The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is all set to launch “one district, one product” scheme that will not only give a distinct identity to each of the 75 districts in the state but will also generate employment.

The “one district, one product” scheme is likely to be formally launched on January 24 which is being celebrated as UP Diwas for the first time.

The state government has already identified products that are specific to various districts.

According to the government spokesperson, the department of micro, small and medium enterprises has put up a list of products that will be promoted in the districts under this scheme. The spokesman said that the products had a local connection and significance and the state government would help in their branding, marketing and promotion.

The scheme will be implemented under the supervision of a cell set up under the industrial development commissioner ( IDC). The monitoring at the district level will be done by the district magistrates.

According to the spokesman, “The scheme will encourage youth in districts to find employment avenues without migrating to bigger cities. The local craft and produce will get a national platform with government support and startups.” Some of the traditional industries that will be promoted under this scheme include glassware of Ferozabad, leather products made in Agra, locks in Aligarh, brassware in Moradabad, handloom in Mau, stoles in Barabanki, jute and bamboo furniture in Sultanpur, chikan embroidery in Lucknow and silk in Varanasi. The famous patchwork embroidery of Rampur will also get a fillip under this scheme. The terracotta industry of Gorakhpur is also on the list.
