Apple should address youth phone addiction: Investors

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Intel announced their 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon RX Vega M Graphics. The new 8th Gen Intel Core processor will come in two configurations: one with a Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics ( 65W power), and another with Radeon RX Vega M GH Graphics ( 100W power), which features an unlocked configuration.

In early November, Intel first shared its initial details about this new addition to the 8th Gen Intel Core processor family. It brings together the Intel quad- core CPU, Radeon RX Vega M graphics and 4GB of dedicated HBM2 using Intel’s Embedded MultiDie Interconnect Bridge ( EMIB) technology. EMIB acts as a highspeed intelligent information bridge between the GPU and HBM2 and reduces the usual silicon footprint to less than half that of discrete components implemented separately. Many 3- year- old systems weigh nearly pounds, last a mere four hours and are more than 32mm thick. With this new processor, the company claims that devices can be slimmed to under 17mm and can run up to eight hours on a single charge.

According to a Company’s report, the new 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon RX Vega M graphics is targeted to Gamers, Content Creators and VR Enthusiasts. The devices launching with this processor include lighter 2- in- 1s from Dell, HP and Intel’s own NUC. In addition to these, this new processor will enable a gaming cloud solution brought on by Artesyn and Gamestream.

We can expect to see more from Intel on the high- end performance notebook segment, the Intel Core H- series, Intel Optane memory coming to 8th Gen Intel Core mobile devices for the first time and more details on 8th Gen Intel Core vPro platform for businesses. 7 Jana Partners and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System, Apple Inc’s shareholders are urging the smartphone maker to address the growing problem of addiction of the youth to iPhones.

According to a report by Reuters, Jana and CalSTRS, one of the public pension plans, who together control about $ 2 billion worth of Apple shares, has recently delivered a letter to Apple on January 6, which asks the company to consider developing software that would allow parents to control and regulate their children’s phone use. They have also asked Apple to study the impact of excessive phone use on mental health. The investors are reportedly worried that Apple’s reputation and the stock could be hurt if it does not address those concerns.

This comes after the issue of phone addiction among young people has been on the rise in the United States as parents report their children cannot give up their phones. Wireless is expected to account for an increasing share of the $ 9.6 billion global earphone and headphone market. Denmark’s GN Store Nord seems to have taken an aim at Apple Airpods by launching a new range of wireless earbuds. According to Reuters, this move is an aim to make a mark in the market for the brand. Wireless is expected to account for an increasing share of the $ 9.6 billion global earphone and headphone market and that means intense competition between tech companies keen to cash in on the trend. Amazon Alexa has been integrated and the price of the latest product has been slashed ( as compared to Airpods) to attract customers.

Known for making hearing aids, GN has been a prominent brand in the market since it started life as a telegraph company in 1869. The report also states that the hearing aid division has benefited from working closely with Apple for years by using Bluetoothlike technology that, installed in the ear, allows users to stream voice and music from their iPhones. It will continue that cooperation while competing with the tech giant on the wireless earphone market.

René Svendsen- Tune, chief executive of GN’s audio division, reportedly said, “We’re expanding our brand to deliver products aiming for a broader segment dominated by Apple. Even though Apple has helped develop this market with great speed but now we’re launching a new generation. If we can maintain the second place in 2018, I believe we will have done very well.”

While GN had launched its first wireless earphones in November 2016, Apple went on to launch Airpods after dispensing with the plug- in for jack cables in its iPhone 7.

GN’s original earphones, tailored for athletes with features to track progress and measure heart rate, sold for $ 370, twice as much as Apple’s equivalent.
