Gupta urges govt to notify 351 roads
Amid the on- going sealing drive in the capital on the directions of the Supreme Court- appointed monitoring committee, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta on Tuesday demanded a notification be issued on 351 roads as commercial, mixed land or pedestrian shopping streets immediately.
Mr Gupta said that the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi ( MCD) had sent a list of these roads after following due procedure to the Delhi government for issuing a notification in June, 2007. But due to the government’s apathetic attitude, the notification has not been issued for the last 10 years.
“Delay is denial of rights/ justice to thousands of traders on these streets. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi ( MCD) had identified 2,638 roads for commercial and mixed land use. The Delhi government had notified these roads in time. But a notification on the remaining 351 roads is pending/ not been issued till date,” said Mr Gupta.
He pointed out that of the 351 roads, 89 roads have been earmarked by MCD as commercial streets, 237 notified for mixed land use and 18 roads notified as pedestrian shopping streets. These roads fall within the jurisdiction of all the three municipal corporations.
The BJP leader also demanded that these roads be notified at the earliest so that the traders would no longer be denied the right to carry out business as per their entitled category.
