In a gruesome twin murder case, a man allegedly hacked his wife and a son to death while they were in deep sleep in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area.

The murders took place on Monday night.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when the six- year- old son of the couple, who witnessed the gruesome murders, informed neighbours. At the time of the murders, two other children were also sleeping in the same room besides the victims, said the police. The deceased have been identified as Sunita ( 33) and her one- and- halfyearold son Karan.

The accused husband has been identified as Om Prakash ( 36), a painter by profession and a resident of G Block, Jahangirpuri slums.

According to the police, the accused is on the run and teams have been constituted to nab him. Probe revealed that the accused husband was a habitual drinker and picked up fights with his wife after consuming alcohol. During probe, the police team learnt that Om Prakash’s drinking habit had become the bone of contention between the couple, who had been married for the last 12 years and had three sons from the wedlock.

The murder came to light at about 9 am on Tuesday when, hearing the cries of the elder son, one of the neighbours went to check and found Sunita and Karan lying in a pool of blood. The sixyear-

old minor cried and told the neighbour that his “‘ Papa has killed babu.”

Subsequently, the police was informed, who then visited the spot along with FSL experts and the dog squad. When the teams reached the spot, they found Sunita and Karan lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries.

Initial probe reveals that Om Prakash had grabbed a hammer and brutally charged an attack on his wife and then stabbed her to death. Meanwhile, when his oneandhalf- year- old son woke up, he stabbed him too.

“On Monday, when everybody was sleeping, Prakash, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, took out a hammer and a knife and hit and stabbed Sunita multiple times. When Karan, who was sleeping with Sunita, started crying, Prakash stabbed him too and fled,” the officer said.

“The entire crime was witnessed by the couple’s six- year- old son, who informed a neighbour on Tuesday morning,” he added.

A case of murder has been registered against Om Prakash.
