Jahangirpu­ri follow- up: Accused husband held

A day after a woman and her son were found murdered in Jahangirpu­ri, the police on Wednesday arrested the deceased woman’s husband in Jahangirpu­ri.

Police said that the accused identified as Omprakash ( 31) was arrested, while he was trying to flee from the city. Aslam Khan, DCP, Northwest, said, “The police team was tasked to get informatio­n about the accused’s whereabout­s and conduct raids. Assisted with technical inputs and ground level intelligen­ce inputs, the police team raided several locations in and outside Delhi, including railway stations, inter- state bus stations, shelter homes and other possible hideouts in search of the accused. Houses of some of Omprakash’s close relatives were also raided.”

She said, “On Wednesday, we received a tip- off that the accused has been spotted at Khera Kalan Railway Station. Based on the input, SHO, Jahangirpu­ri, Tej Pal Singh, Inspector Radhey Shyam, ASI Brij Bhushan and others rushed to the railway station and apprehende­d the accused.

The police said Omprakash was planning to escape go to a distant location to evade the clutches of law.

During interrogat­ion, the accused confessed to the crime. He also led the police to weapons used by him. Blood stained clothes that he wore at the time of committing the murders, also were recovered.”

Police said the accused slept with the bodies of his wife and one- and- halfyearol­d son and fled the next day. The police came to know about the murders only on Tuesday after a call was received by the Jahangirpu­ri police station.
