Arms supplier held, 30 weapons found

The Special Cell of the Delhi police busted an inter- state gun running racket and arrested arrested a key member involved in supplying arms in the city. Around 30 weapons were also recovered.

The police said the arrested accused has been identified as Kailash Solanki, who hails from Madhya Pradesh. As part of a drive against of illegal arms supply, the Special Cell since January 2016 busted and arrested several modules/ kingpins and seized more than 500 sophistica­te d / s e m i - a u t o m a t i c weapons.

As per the trend being witnessed, the police said, illegal weapons are mainly pumped into Delhi/ NCR from Munger ( Bihar) and Khargaon, Burhanpur, Manawar ( MP).

On a tip off that Solanki would deliver a consignmen­t of illegal firearms to one of his contacts in Outer Delhi area on January 23, the police laid a trap for him near Bhagwan Mahavir Marg crossing, Rohini.

Solanki was a member of illegal firearms syndicate run by one Dinesh of Manawar, MP, the police said.

He arrived in an autoricksh­aw from the direction of Sector 24 Rohini. He was carrying a black backpack and handmade plastic bag. Sensing police presence there, Solanki started moving fast towards Barwala side but was apprehende­d by th e police team.

During interrogat­ion, he revealed that one his Delhi contacts was supposed to come to the spot to receive the delivery of consignmen­t. He told the police that he was involved in the racket for the past five years.
