3 Nigerians held in cheating case

A gang of three Nigerain nationals, including a woman, were arrested by Shahadra police for duping a doctor to the tune of 40 lakh after befriendin­g ` him on a social networking site.

The accused have been identified as Oluwole Celestine, Kelechi Kenneth and a woman

( she has not been revealed).

The Shahdara police busted the gang following a complaint by one Dr Vijay. In the complaint, he alleged that he had received a friend request on Facebook by one Sandra Cage, which he had accepted ands began chatting with her.

On 20 November 2017, she contacted Dr Vijay and told him that she was held up by Mumbai immigratio­n department as she was carrying £ 3.5 lakhs and that she has to pay Rs 45,000 as penalty.

Dr Vijay transferre­d the required amount in her account. Later, she asked for another 70,000 to pay the Income Tax department after which they would release £ 3.5 lakhs to her. She assured him that she will pay him back onjce she reached Delhi., said DCP Shahadra, Nupur Prasad.

"On November 21, she called him and told him she has to go back to UK as her mother was sick. However, somebody from the UK Embassy will come to him to return the money ( sent to her).

On December 3 last, one Jacob came to Dr Vijay's house with a little box and said that it contains £ 3.5 lakhs given by Sandra Cage for you. Thereafter, he took out a small bottle and said it was a solution to clean the currency notes as they had stamp marks all over. He took out three notes and cleaned them and handed them over to Dr Vijay.

After sometime he said that the bottle was broken. To arrange for another one, Jacob told Dr Vijay to transfer 4.5 lakhs to buy ` the solution. The next day, Jacob called him and asked him to transfer 30 ` lakhs. After 30 lakhs was ` transferre­d, the person didn't call nor return.
