Lajong snap Neroca’s run

-

Imphal, Jan. 24: Shillong Lajong snapped Neroca FC’s nine- match unbeaten run with a 2- 0 win in the ILeague, here on Wednesday.

Lajong pumped in two quick goals through Saihou Jagne ( 13th) and Abdoulaye Koffi ( 18th) and the home side, who were aiming to win this match to top the league table, could not score despite having several chances.

Neroca dominated the second half but their forwards were found wanting in front of the goal.

Their defence struggled in the first half an hour, helping the Shillong side take a 2- 0 lead before the 20th minute.

Neroca could not recover from the early jolt. Neroca remained on the second spot table with 21 points from 11 points. They can top the table if they beat leaders Minerva Punjab FC ( 22 points from nine matches) at home on January 27. Lajong moved two places to fourth with 17 points from 12 matches.

AIZAWL HOST MOHUN BAGAN Hosts Aizawl FC will look to bounce back from their loss against Neroca when they face Mohun Bagan on Thursday.

Mohun Bagan approach the match on the back of a morale- boosting 2- 0 win over East Bengal.

Said Bagan coach Sankar Lal Chakraborty, “Winning the derby is always a good motivation but playing at Aizawl is always hard. Last season we lost at Aizawl and our title hope faded away. Our aim is to win tomorrow and to stay in championship contention.”— PTI
