Tanque’s unique goal celebration!
A late goal sparked crazy scenes during a Copa Libertadores clash between O r i e n t e Petrolero and Universitario de Deportes in Bolivia on M o n d a y night, as the scorer celebrated by hopping into a nearby car and pretending to drive off. With Oriente winning 1- 0 in the first round tie but down to 10 men, they brought on substitute striker Maximiliano Freitas, also known as Tanque, with 11 minutes remaining, according to the Daily Mail. And Tanque made an instant impact as he netted with his first touch off the bench to seal victory for the home side.
The striker then celebrated his late strike in a spectacular fashion as he hopped over the advertising hoardings surrounding the pitch and ran over to a nearby car. Tanque got into the driver’s seat of the 4x4 as he was joined by his Oriente team mates, who eventually persuaded him to come out.
The Uruguayan striker’s celebration at the Ramon Stadium in Santa Cruz de la Sierra echoed Antoine Griezmann’s from his spell at Real Sociedad. The current Atletico Madrid forward had toasted his goal against Deportivo by running over to a car and jumping in with his Sociedad team mates.
Tanque is nicknamed ‘ Beast’ for his hulking physique and has been a hit with Oriente fans since arriving after his departure from Argentine Juniors.
The Copa Libertadores is South America’s premier club tournament and was won last season by Brazilian side Gremio.
