TENNIS STAR EDMUND is a Liverpool follower

-

Yorkshireman Kyle Edmund, who has been impressive at the Australian Open, is an avid Liverpool fan and says he would have been a Formula One driver if not for tennis, reports the Mirror.

Edmund was born in Johannesburg in 1995 to Welsh father Steven and South African mother Denise. With his sister Kelly, they relocated to the village of Tickton near Beverley in Yorkshire when he was just three years old.

He was a keen swimmer and cricketer and did not begin to play tennis until the age of 10, when he started hitting at the Beverley and East Riding Lawn Tennis Club.

Edmund received the good news of Jurgen Klopp’s team beating Manchester City in the English Premier League, before his first round win in Melbourne. “Good result, wasn’t it?” he said. “And no Coutinho or van Dijk.”

Asked what he would do if he wasn’t a tennis player. Edmund has said he would love to be a Formula One driver.

He is also a cricket fan — he has had congratulations from the England ODI squad Down Under — and was chuffed to see former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting in the players’ lounge.

Edmund said: “I idolise him. I am aware of him and how good they are in sport. Did he recognise me? No!”

Unlike Andy Murray, Laura Robson and Jo Konta, Edmund has come through the LTA ranks.
