Maoists kill cop, civilian in Bastar, torch 10 vehicles

Maoists ran amok in Chhattisga­rh’s insurgency­hit south Bastar region killing two people, including a jawan, and torching ten vehicles being used for road constructi­on in separate incidents in the region late on Saturday night.

According to south Bastar deputy inspector general of police, P. Sunderraj, the rebels abducted an assistant constable, identified as Sitaram Bagde, at Kalcharam under Farsegarh police station in Bijapur district when he was returning to the district headquarte­rs town from his sister’s place in Farsegarh on his motorcycle.

His body with the throat slit was found lying on the road in the village of Kalcharam on Sunday morning.

The ultras first stopped

a passenger bus at Kalcharam and set it on fire after asking the passengers to disembark.

The slain jawan, who was passing by during the period, was also stopped and frisked along with the passengers of the illfated bus.

Later, Maoist took him inside the nearby forest after identifyin­g him as a jawan.

His body was spotted by locals in Kalcharam village.

In another incident, armed Naxals stormed Gatam village in south Bastar district of Dantewada late on Saturday night and dragged Manoj Padium ( 24) out of his house.

The rebels shot him dead in front of his wife.

Manoj incurred wrath of the ultras for working as an employee of a road contractor in his area.

In a separate incident, Naxals torched ten vehicles being used for road constructi­on in Maded area in Bijapur district late on Saturday night.
