Ayurveda medicines to use cow urine

UP govt prepares medicines to treat liver ailment, pain

- AMITA VERMA

Following in the footsteps of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to prepare Ayurveda medicines using cow urine.

The Ayurveda department has prepared eight medicines using ‘ gau mutra’ ( cow urine) which is said to be useful in treating liver ailments, joint pain and immunity deficiency

Ayurveda department’s Dr R. R. Chaudhary told reporters here on Sunday that the two pharmacies of his department, located in Lucknow and Pilibhit, along with some other private units, have started preparing medicines using cow urine, ghee and cow milk.

He said that recent research shows that cow urine and other cow derivatives can prove to be highly useful. “Till now, we have been giving medicines made using cow urine in cases pertaining to liver ailments, joint pain and for boosting immunity. Our endeavour is to expand the ambit of these medicines and use it for curing other ailments since cow urine is an integral part of Ayurveda”, he said.

The official said that more and more people were turning to Ayurveda which is relatively free from side effects.

Dr Chaudhary informed that in Lucknow alone, the daily footfall in the OPD of the Ayurveda Hospital is around 700 to 800 patients. If the all patients arriving in eight medical colleges are combined together, then the figure reaches thousands.

There are eight Ayurvedic medical colleges in the state in Banda, Jhansi, Muzaffarnagar, Allahabad, Varanasi, Bareilly, Lucknow and Pilibhit.

The director further said the department is working to open new pharmacies and start post- graduate and MD courses in Ayurvedic medical colleges.

In July 2017, the centre set up a 19- member panel, including three members linked to the RSS and VHP, to carry out what it said will be scientifically validated research on cow derivatives.
