Fraud promised job in SBI, held from bank branch

■ Victims asked to pay 3.5L `

A man was apprehended on the SBI main branch premises at Parliament Street for allegedly running a job racket.

The accused, Rajender Kumar, had been roaming around the bank premises for many days. On January 31 around 12: 30 pm when the accused was again found loitering on the fourth floor of branch premises, he was questioned by Mr Deepak Sharma, deputy manager and Anil Kumar Chhabra, senior head messenger. He was not able to give any reasonable justification.

On further questioning, two persons Mr Jitendra Kumar and Mr Ajay Kumar Gupta, both residents of Bihar, said that Rajender had brought them for recruitment as dispatch clerks in the bank. They also showed fake joining letters, purported to be issued by the SBI and given to them by this man. Immediately, police were called on the spot.

“We informed the police that the appointment letters found to be in possession of Rajender Kumar are fake and no such letters were ever issued by the bank. It appears to be a case of recruitment racket. He may have other accomplices. The bank officials handed over Rajender Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Ajay Kumar to the police,” wrote Ms Vandana, deputy general manager, State Bank of India main branch, in her police complaint. A police official on the condition of anonymity said that one Virender Mohan was also arrested from Ghaziabad. He was the agent, known to Jitender Kumar and Anil Kumar. He asked them to pay ` 3.5 lakh each to get the job.
