New Delhi: Manipur’s Maisnam Meiraba beat Uttar Pradesh’s Aakash Yadav 16- 21, 21- 14, 2118 to win the boys’ singles badminton crown at the Khelo India School Games here on Thursday even as Haryana topped the final medal tally followed by Maharashtra, Delhi Karnatake and Manipur in that order. In the girls’ final, Malvika Bansod beat Aakarshi Kashyap 21- 12, 12- 10 to give Maharashtra their final gold in the event. In boxing, Haryana’s Poonam earned a split decision against Manipur’s Babyrojisana Chanu in the 52kg girls category. Haryana dominated the medal charts winning 10 of the 26 gold on offer. Six of their boxers finished with silver. Maharashtra finished with seven gold and a silver while Manipur bagged two gold and eight silver medals. In gymnastics, Mohammed Anas ( UP) won his fourth gold by nailing the horizontal bars while Jammu and Kashmir’s Bavleen Kaur won two gold in rhythmic gymnastics’ ribbon and clubs and a bronze in ball to add to the silver she won in the all- round. In hockey, Odisha beat Punjab 2- 1 in the boys final while Haryana pipped Jharkhand 2- 1 in the girls final.
