Unidentified men in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area allegedly stabbed a 45- year- old businessman to death on Thursday night.

The police said that the decease, identified as Sanjay Chawla, a property dealer and financer, was stabbed right in front of his house around 8 pm after he left his officer. The incident took place while he was only a few metres away from his house. Chawla left the office and reached home. There, a man was already waiting for him. He stabbed Sanjay three to four times and fled from the spot. He is survived by his 10- year- old daughter and 15- year- old son.

A few passersby immediately rushed to the spot and called his mother who was at home at the time. The victim was rushed to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital. “He was treated at the hospital for over an hour but was referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre. However, he succumbed to injuries at around 4 am on Friday. The family claimed that they have seen the CCTV footage, which shows three men. The family suspect robbery to be the reason behind the attack but the police said they are yet to ascertain what the motive is.

Additional DCP Arya said they are looking at all the angles including robbery.

“At the moment, we are not sure whether the attack was because of robbery or personal enmity or any other reason. It’ll be clear once the accused are identified,” she said, adding that the case of attempt to murder, which was registered on Thursday, has been amended to punishment for murder.

The family said that Mr Chawla had returned from London on February 7 after a weeklong vacation with his wife and 7month- old twins.
