GND, VBSP varsities post big victories
Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev University defeated Chennai’s SRM University 5- 1 in Pool A of the Fitness World 25th Nehru all- India inter- university men’s hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the capital on Monday.
Jagjot Singh scored a brace and Geet Kumar, Harsahib Singh and Hartaj Singh Aulja added to the scoreboard in the team’s dominant win.
For SRM University, the lone goal came from M. Hari Haran.
In Pool B, MG Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, were held 2- 2 by Patiala’s Punjabi University.
Prabhjot Singh put Punjabi University ahead in the first half while second half strikes from Pankaj Kumar Yadav and Abhay Kumar handed MG Kashi Vidyapeeth the lead. A late goal from Ranjit Singh helped Punjabi University draw level as the team split the points.
In another Pool B match, Bangalore University recorded a massive 19- 1 victory over SGB University of Amravati.
Later in Pool A, Jaunpur’s VBSP University Gwalior’s LNIPE 7- 2. scored thrice and Yadav, Shubham defeated Raj Pal Kamlesh Singh, Dharmendra Singh and Manish added one each, while Bikram Sagar and Amardeep struck for the Gwalior side.
