India backs peace pact in Myanmar

New Delhi: Pointing out that “comprehens­ive peace and national reconcilia­tion in Myanmar will also be conducive for the peace and prosperity of the north- eastern states of India”, New Delhi on Tuesday said that it supports the National Ceasefire Agreement ( NCA) in neighbour Myanmar which is a peace pact between the Central government there and ethnic groups. According to news agency reports, two groups — New Mon State Party and the Lahu Democratic Union — have now signed the NCA, joining the peace process, with eight groups having joined the peace process in 2015. India has been working with Myanmar to tackle the issue of Naga militants of the NSCN( K) faction carrying out attacks on Indian security forces from Myanmar’s territory.
