Govt told to check sexual exploitation in govt schools

Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Vijender Gupta on Friday asked chief minister Arvind Kejriwal what steps has the government taken to curb the sexual exploitation in the government schools.

Mr Gupta alleged that the government has not taken serious steps to curb and prevent such undesirable activities.

“It is rather trying to push the matter under carpet. Mr Kejriwal and deuty CM Manish Sisodia don’t get tired of boasting about their achievements in the field of education. But when it comes to such embarrassing matters, they keep silent and try their best to hush up the case.

Due to this hush- hush attitude, the incidents of this nature are growing,” Mr Gupta said.

He demanded that the government should setup a high- level committee to inquire into the matter. It should draft policies, strategies and chart action points to create a healthy and happy environment in schools devoid of sexual exploitation.

Raising serious questions with regard to the silence on the incident at a government school in North- West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area when two Class 8 students complained that they were repeatedly inapprorpiately touched by their teacher Avdesh Kumar for the past few months.

Taking action on the statements of the two minor girls, a case under POCSO Act has been filed by the police and the teacher has been arrested. But the Delhi government has not issued any statement not to say of taking any action against the guilty, Mr Gupta said.
