Sisodia opens 3- day Garden Tourism Festival

With an aim to create awareness about the environmen­t and making Delhi as a clean and green city, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday inaugurate­d the three- day Garden Tourism Festival showing a glimpse of the city’s horticultu­ral variety at the Garden of Five Senses at Said- ul- Ajaib area.

Mr Sisodia urged the people to plant trees in a bid to combat pollution and make Delhi a clean and green city. At the launch of the 31st Garden Tourism Festival at the Garden of Five Senses, he said the practice of gardening and planting trees played a pivotal role in bettering the humannatur­e relationsh­ip.

He appealed to Residents’ Welfare Associatio­ns ( RWAs) to attend the three- day festival. "Everybody is concerned about fighting pollution and cleaning the air. It can only be ensured by planting saplings. On the occasion, he planted a tree in the garden.

There is a need for organising more such garden festivals at a larger scale to set examples for developing a sustainabl­e urbanised city, the deputy chief minister said.

The festival will remain open for the public from 11 am to 8 pm on all three days. Fee shuttle service will be provided to and fro from the Saket Metro Station

Grow Garden: Save Delhi. The 22- acre garden has more than 325 species of plants. Some of the attraction­s include court of palm, court of cactii, herbal garden, tree museum, topiary garden, zen garden, aromatic garden and butterfly zone.

The festival will remain open for public from 11 am to 8 pm on all three days. The Delhi tourism department will provide free shuttle service to and fro from the Saket Metro Station.

This festival is being held for the past 30 years during Spring season.

Earlier, Delhi Tourism held this festival of flowers at different places in the capital such as Talkatora Garden and India Gate Lawns.

The underlying theme of this year's fest is "Grow Garden: Save Delhi". The Garden of Five Senses was filled with fragrance and aroma of nature, thousands of blooming flowers, hundred kinds of bougainvil­leas and bonsai plants added beauty to the nature.
