In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency ( NIA) has arrested a member of a banned Manipuri terrorist organisation, Kangleipak Communist Party ( Noyon), who was allegedly a part of the team that carried out an attack on an Army convoy in June 2015, in which 18 soldiers were killed and 15 other injured.

The incident took place near Paraolen village in Chandel district of Manipur.

Subsequently, investigations into the case were handed over to the NIA, which has now arrested Mo iran gt hem Nimaichand Meitei. NIA sources claimed that Meitei was allegedly part of the module carried out the killings which is described as the biggest terror attack on the Army in the Northeast.

Sources in the investigating agency claimed that Meitei’s arrest was a major breakthrough which will now help in getting more details regarding the entire conspiracy behind the terror attack on the Army convoy.

Meitei was produced before the NIA special judge on February 20 who remanded him to seven days of NIA custody.

Sources claimed that both Gorkha Rifles and Bishnupur police in Manipur played an important role in carrying out this important arrest.

It is suspected that a group of 23 militants were involved in the ambush out of which two were killed during the encounter. Officials claimed that apart from Kangleipak Communist Party ( Noyon) groups members of another terror outfit, NSCN ( Khaplang), and some more were also involved in the incident.
