Prince Aga Khan calls on President

New Delhi, Feb. 22: Spiritual leader Prince Karim Aga Khan on Thursday met President Ram Nath Kovind and discussed various developmen­tal programmes run with the support of the organisati­on of the former.

Welcoming Prince Aga Khan to the Rashtrapat­i Bhavan, the President congratula­ted him on the diamond jubilee of his leadership of the Ismaili community.

He said that the Prince has lead with a great humility and has been a shining example of goodness for humanity.

The President said that India deeply appreciate­s the developmen­t initiative­s Prince Aga Khan is supporting in India and other parts of the world.

Mr Kovind said that the programmes of the Aga Khan Developmen­t Network ( AKDN) and India’s flagship initiative­s complement each other, be it Swachh Bharat Mission, Skill India, heritage conservati­on, women empowermen­t or income generation in rural areas, according to an official statement issued by the Rashtrapat­i Bhavan.

The President was happy to note that the AKDN has partnered India not only in social sector projects but also in restoratio­n of historic monuments and urban renewal.

On the inaugurati­on of the restored Sunder nursery in Delhi on Wednesday, Mr Kovind said that India appreciate­s the AKDN for helping in several restoratio­n projects.

Adjoining the Humayun’s tomb, the nursery, open for public from Thursday was inaugurate­d by Vice- President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prince Karim Aga Khan.
