Mother & newborn die, kin vandalise hospital

Tension prevailed on Wednesday night when a mother and her newborn baby died in a city hospital in Badli area of the capital. Alleging medical negligence, the woman’s family members vandalised the hospital on Thursday.

The deceased woman, Rakhi, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night by her husband, Guddu, after she started having labour pains.

He alleged that the hospital staff delayed the treatment. “I was told in night that the child had already died in the womb. While I was trying to gather my wits, they told me that my wife also died,” said the distressed Guddu, criticisin­g the carelessne­ss of the hospital authoritie­s.

According to the police, after the incident, Guddu’s family members and relatives gheraoed the hospital on Thursday and protested the negligence of the hospital doctors. They also complained to the hospital authoritie­s.

This led to a verbal spatbetwee­n the Guddu and the doctors, resulting in an ugly clash and the hospital administra­tion called the police.

The kin of the deceased further alleged that “The hospital with the help of police tried to pressurise us for compromise. Upon which the relatives created a ruckus by damaging the hospital.

To control the matter police had to use force and even made a video of the incident.

On the basis of video evidence, the accused were apprehende­d, said a senior police official.
