AIZAWL END EIGHT- MATCH WINLESS RUN

Defending champions Aizawl FC ended an eight- match winless run in the I- League with a 30 victory over bottomplac­ed Indian Arrows 30 in Aizawl on Friday.

Romanian midfielder Andrei Ionescu ( 7th minute) opened the scoring for the hosts while Lalkhawpui­mawia ( 16th, 87th) helped himself to a brace.

Aizawl are now equal on points with fifthplace­d Shillong Lajong ( 21 points from 17 mathces) and are sixth with a game in hand.

Arrows stayed bottom with 15 from 17 matches. at the points

EB KEEN TO STAY IN CONTENTION

In Kolkata, third- placed East Bengal will be hoping to keep pace with leaders Neroca FC and second- placed Minerva when they host Chennai City FC.

EB have 26 points from 15 games, five behind Neroca with two games in hand. “We have to change our strategy and need a good start. They will also be under pressure,” EB coach Khalid Jamil said on Friday.

CHURCHILL OUT TO END GOKULAM’S RUN Churchill Brothers will have their task cut out as they take on giantkille­rs Gokulam FC on Margao on Sunday.

Churchill have lost their last three matches.

Gokulam FC, on the other hand, have five wins out of six and have turned the title race upside down beating Mohun Bagan ( 1- 2), East Bengal ( 2- 1) and Minerva ( 0- 1).
