Britain swept by curling craze

-

Latvian figure skater Diana Nikitina stole the show and fans’ hearts, with her unusual outfit and song choice overnight in PyeongChang, says the Mirror.

The 17- year- old competed fourth in the short programme and scored 51.12, her personal best score of the season, after landing a triple lutz and triple toe loop, but still left herself in danger of not making the cut.

Her performance was not out of the ordinary — but her outfit certainly was.

While most women figure skaters choose a more traditional sparkly dress, Nikitina opted for a black jumpsuit with some decorative accoutrements.

The song choice also captured the attention of fans as Nikitina took to the ice to the tune of Soldier of Love by Sade.

“I am a strong person, I am not a bit like a princess,” she said. “This look makes the costume a bit mean. “Everything is strong in my programme and in my life. The outfit is elegant for a girl who is tall.

“It is not good to be afraid to be different.” Liverpool fans were in for a surprise when star man Mo Salah rocked up to a chippy in Merseyside, reports the Sun.

The Egyptian stunned staff when he walked through the door at Panny’s Place Fish and Chip shop.

The 25- year- old, who has scored an incredible 30 goals in all competitions this season, was caught on camera by one of the staff behind the counter at the Liverpool takeaway.

It is thought that he was there to film part of an advert for Egyptian TV.

In footage posted on social media the worker even joked that Salah still had to pay for the meal before one fan managed to grab a personal message on his mobile phone.

Salah was also spotted at The Park Pub and Derry Mathews Boxing Academy.

The African Footballer of the Year has surprised everyone with his amazing form following his £ 36.9 million transfer from Roma in the summer. Team Great Britain’s women’s curling team set up a dramatic semi- final clash against Sweden with a 6- 5 win over Canada at the Winter Olympics.

The men’s side fell agonisingly short of the semis with a tie- breaker 9- 5 defeat to Switzerland.

Nonetheless, both teams’ efforts have turned Britain — and the rest of the world — curlywurly, says the Sun.

Hilarious videos of home attempts have gone viral — and it’s no surprise why.

One clip shows people being used as stones, as a man on an office chair slides towards his colleague while a woman uses a mop as a brush.

Another snap shows some Canadian fans using air hockey strikers as stones with masking tape depicting the house, while a university student demonstrates the budget way to play with a broomstick and plastic pot.
