India to bid adieu to Sridevi today
No foul play in death, say Dubai cops
Film actress Sridevi’s mortal remains reached Mumbai in a chartered plane on Tuesday at 10.30 pm after the Dubai public prosecution department completed its investigation into the circumstances leading to her death and handed over the body to her family.
No foul play was found, and the case is now considered closed.
The body was accompanied by her husband, producer Boney Kapoor, his brother Sanjay Kapoor and son Arjun Kapoor. Industrialist Anil Ambani was at the airport to receive the body along with actor Anil Kapoor and Sonam.
Her family released a statement giving details of the last rites.
The mortal remains of arguably the first woman superstar of the silver screen will be kept at the Sports Club Garden in Lokhandvala Complex in Andheri where people can pay their last respects from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm on Wednesday.
The funeral will take place at 3.30 pm at the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Dubai Public Prosecutor’s Office, after a thorough probe, “released” to the family the body of the 54- year- old actress, who had died suddenly in the bathtub of her hotel room in Dubai on Sunday morning. The Dubai police said she accidentally drowned following loss of consciousness.
The actress was reportedly getting ready after her husband arrived in Dubai to surprise her and told her about his plans of a special dinner when she “accidentally drowned”. Sources said that Sridevi had suffered a stroke in the bathtub and drowned. This could not be verified independently. Before releasing the body, her husband was questioned thrice, while the actor’s sister Srilatha was questioned once. The Dubai police also questioned other family members and hotel in order to recreate the timeline to her death. Boney’s son, actor Arjun Kapoor, flew to Dubai early on Tuesday to be by his father’s side and oversee the process. The Kapoor family claimed the body from the morgue, got it embalmed on Tuesday evening, and then flew to Mumbai in a private plane, which has been parked at the Dubai airport since Sunday.
