Parliament stalled again on PNB fraud, Andhra issue
Both Houses of Parliament saw repeated adjournments for the second consecutive day Tuesday amid an uproar by Opposition MPs over the PNB bank fraud, a special package for Andhra Pradesh and demands to set up a Cauvery Water Management Board. The mood of the Opposition parties was visible from early morning as they were protesting outside the Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Parliament complex over these issues.
In the Lok Sabha, the Opposition members sought the Prime Minister’s response on the banking sector frauds, while the parties from Andhra Pradesh persisted in their demand for special status. Besides the major Opposition parties, NDA ally Shiv Sena protested in the Well of the House demanding classical language status for Marathi.

On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu watched a badminton match among MPs at the Constitution Club. After both the Houses were adjourned for the day, MPs went straight to the Constitution Club on Rafi Marg to play a badminton match. Earlier, a cricket match would be held regularly between Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs. This is the first time a badminton match was organised. Some MPs suggested that the day the House does not function, a sports event other than cricket should be held.

CPI( M) MPs wanted to hand over a memorandum to home minister Rajnath Singh urging him to direct the governor of Tripura to check violence unleashed by local BJP supporters on the CPM cadre. When they could not find the home minister, who was on an official visit to Meghalaya, the MPs wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him for immediate action. While looking for support from other parties, they got no empathy from Trinamul Congress. But it was learnt that its supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted against the vandalism in Tripura, and the party then issued a statement condemning the post- poll violence.
