Uproar over UP minister speech

The Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad, on Tuesday, witnessed a unified Opposition demanding action against Uttar Pradesh minister Nand Gopal Nandi who had made some derogatory references to Opposition leaders during an election meeting in Allahabad on Sunday in which UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath was also present.

A police complaint has also been filed in Ghumanganj police station in Allahabad against the minister who used objectionable language against BSP president Mayawati.

The complaint was given by BSP regional coordinator Ashok Gautam, who sought the BJP leader’s arrest. Gautam alleged that Nandi has hurt religious sentiments and used derogatory language against Ms Mayawati. The BSP has also lodged

a complaint with the Election Commission for violation of the model code of conduct which is in force in Allahabad where by elections to the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat are being held.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party and BSP members barged into the well of the Vidhan Parishad on Tuesday as soon as the house assembled, forcing an adjournment of proceedings.

They were joined by the Congress.

The members continued to agitate and forced repeated adjournments till the house was finally adjourned for the day.

The Opposition is demanding ouster of Nand Gopal Nandi from the council of ministers.

Mr Nand Gopal Nandi, in his speech had likened Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav to ‘ Ravan’, Ms Mayawati to ‘ Surpnakha’ and Mr Arvind Kejriwal to ‘ Marich’.

He referred to Mr Akhilesh Yadav as ‘ Meghnaad’ and Mr Shivpal Yadav as ‘ Kumbhkaran’.
