Light Phone 2: Your liberal detox phone

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

In the recent times, we have come across several minimalist phones — phones that offer the absolute necessities in a communication device. These kinds of phones are meant to help users detox themselves from the complicated and hectic life brought by smartphones. While most of them offer basic calling and texting facilities, an Indiegogo startup by the name of Light Phone came with a simple feature phone that only allowed calls and storing nine contacts. Since that was too limited in its features, the company came out with the second generation of the device, adding more features than before. Meet the new Light Phone 2. Carrying forward the idea of minimalism, the Light Phone 2 adds additional necessary features required to stay mobile In today’s age of lightningspeed connectivity. The new model embraces a big e- ink display with a matte finish, which makes it look irresistible. The manufacturer claims that the e- ink display helps them achieve higher levels of brightness. However, it’s still not a touchscreen device, which means that there is two navigation button mounted on the frame. There’s no additional sensor or protruding camera — it’s all spartan.

The new model gets support for 4G LTE connectivity and allows users to send short text messages. There’s a full QWERTY keyboard inspired by Google’s ‘ material designthemed’ Gboard. The company, however, is planning to add additional features to keep the idea of minimalism convenient in the current times. The Light Phone 2, if supported financially from crowdfunding, could gain modern features such as maps, ride- sharing service, alarm clock and a personal playlist.

The Light Phone 2 is currently at a development stage and is seeking donations through crowdfund to turn itself into reality. When launched, users could be expecting a price of $ 400, although interested people could pump about $ 225 into the crowdfunding project to get an early access discount on the same. The phone will be available in black and white colour variants.
