Cabinet secretary launches I- Metros

Cabinet secretary P. K. Sinha on Thursday launched “I- Metros”, an associatio­n of All Indian Metro Rail companies, which will be a forum for exchange of ideas, pooling of knowledge and sharing of experience, best practices, innovation­s etc among the Indian Metro Rail companies to nurture excellence in terms of performanc­e.

The “I- Metros” was launched by Mr Sinha on the occasion of the conference on “Indian metros: collaborat­ing for excellence” held on Thursday at Metro Bhawan.

On the occasion Mr Sinha released “The Operator’s Story”— a publicatio­n by World Bank and Railway and Transport Strategy Centre ( RTSC), Imperial College London, on findings of the research on “What makes Metros successful”.

On the occasion, Mr Sinha said, “This suggestion that all Metros, coming up across the country, should share their experience­s and best practices, came from none else than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“A new platform has been created, which will go a long way if it progresses in terms of sharing of best practices and adoption of the latest technologi­es,” he added.

Mr Sinha also appreciate­d the journey of the Delhi Metro and said, “Metro has been a success story. DMRC has set benchmarks for others in the country. We have all seen Metro grow over the past 15 years. We recognise the contributi­on it has made. I must congratula­te them.”

D. S. Mishra, secretary, Union housing ministry said, “The government has come up with a new Metro policy last year, paving way for growth and developmen­t of Metro systems in the country.”
