Keeping women safety the top most priority on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Delhi police has inducted five more women PCR vans in its second phase on Thursday.

The newly- inducted allwomen PCR vans will be deployed at Vishwa Vidhyalaya Metro station ( North Campus), Patel Chest Institute ( Delhi University), Rajeev Chowk Metro station, Lady Sri Ram College, Sri Venkateswara College, and South Campus considering the high footfall of general public, especially women.

According to special commissioner of police ( women safety and operations) Sanjay Beniwal, 27 women police personnel — three women ASIs, three women head constables, and 21 women constables — have been specially selected and trained in firing skills. They have also been trained in unarmed combat skills.

In order to equip them with the new nature of responsibilities, they have undergone a special refresher course on behavioural soft skills, communication skills, and law at the subsidiary PCR training unit at Rajender Nagar in Delhi.

The Delhi police had launched a pilot project in September 2016 by inducting five PCR vans — all staffed and operated by women staff.

These all- women PCR vans are now stationed at C- Hexagon ( Rajpath); Jesus Mary and Maitreyi College; Vijay ChowkSouth Fountain; KG MargAmerican Centre; and Khan Market among others.

The police said that these all- women PCR vans have performed commendably. In fact, in an independent study conducted about the impact of deployment of these allwomen PCR vans, it was found that women felt it easier to communicate with women police personnel and thus narrate their grievances to them without any hesitation.

Notably, the Delhi police also takes immense pride in letting its women personnel perform such critical operational duties.
