This was disclosed by the Dalai in a statement issued today to mark the ninth anniversary of the uprising at Lhasa on March 10, 1959.

He said that the cultural revolutionary rebels were supported by the Red Guards, while the “Great Alliance” had the support of the military.

Owning to the heavy lighting between the two factions traffic on the highways connecting the important towns of Lhasa, Shigatse and Gyantse was at a standstill thus cutting of communications.

Heavy casualties were also being suffered by both sides.

The Dalal said that the changes had taken place in Tibet during the last two years. While the Chinese continued to suppress the Tibetan people there was infighting amongst themselves.

He added, “the total bankruptcy of Chinese policy in Tibet is evidenced by the fact that all the 301 socalled, elected representatives of the Tibet autonomous region council have been dismissed.
