Samsung Galaxy S9 is pretty difficult to repair: iFixit

● The S9 houses a lot of modular components, but is enclosed in a delicate all- glass body.

There’s no doubt about the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are one of the most beautiful smartphones to be manufactured this year. The svelte curved display and the premium all- glass rear panel give it an unparalleled oomph. However, a smartphone with such premium build is hard to maintain and the Galaxy S9 like its predecessors is no exception. Popular DIY website iFixit has confirmed the same by awarding the Galaxy S9 a low reparability score of 4 out of 10.

The chaps at iFixit teared open a Galaxy S9 and figured out that it was much complex to put it back together. While the guys figured out that most of the components are modular and can be replaced independently, the outer shell of the Galaxy S9 makes it difficult to gain access to the internals. The all- glass front and rear panel increase the chances of damage to the panel while opening the unit. Added to that is the strong adhesive coupled with the waterproof system that holds together the glass panels to the frame, which makes it difficult to open them. They even say that the beautiful Infinity Display is pretty easy to crack and destroy while replacing the front glass.

However, the battery can be replaced easily, provided the tough adhesive and the glued- on rear panel allow easy access to the inside.

If you are a Galaxy S9 or S9+ owner, it’s advisable to exempt yourself from the greed of tearing apart the phone ( inspired by some YouTube DIY projects) as it’s not easy to put it back. That said, if you want to keep your Galaxy S9 and S9+ safe from any issue, it’s advisable to keep the handset in shock resistant cases and covers. The S9 starts at ` 57,900 for the base 64GB variant and goes up to ` 72,900 for the top- end S9+ 256GB variant.
