Do not impersonate a disco ball. Bling needs to be used carefully — ASWATHI BALAKRISHNAN, STYLE INFLUENCER

Striking yet tricky; sporting Bling is a dicey ( sartorial) game to play. But, that does not mean you need to steer clear of the raging trend. Celebrities like Jessica Alba, Emma Watson, Kim Kardashian, Miranda Kerr and Sofia Vergara are names that give us hope: showing how slaying in a bling- ey outfit is doable by getting their style games on point. We check with city fashionistas and explore further... Play with caution, states Aswathi Balakrishnan, fashion influencer. “Do not impersonate a disco ball. Bling makes a major statement and need to be used carefully. As we all know less is more, play safe by mixing solids. If you are wearing a sequin top, pair it with a non blingy bottom wear,” she suggests. And, when in doubt, stick to LBD. “LBD will look brand new with the addition of a pair of sequined tights or a sparkling clutch, or the perfect glittery footwear. You can also try a totally casual ripped denim with a metallic or bling jacket,” she adds. For girls who are not ready to go all out, starting small and subtle is the trick, believes designer Prerana Sarkar.

“Bling clothing is traditionally used for evening wear. But, you can create a snazzy daywear, if you pair it with minimum accessories. Colours like black, gold, white and silver are basically used in these type of dresses, also gives a classic look, especially if you want to avoid looking overdressed. Keep your eye and lip make- up minimal,” she states.

For accessory junkies, the trick is to go the minimalistic route while sporting bl ing-ey outfits. “A single neck- piece and thin silver or metal bangles in one hand are all you need to enhance the look. Use stone embellished earrings and a classy box clutch to complete your look,” adds Prerana. Vouching by the importance of wearing tonedsequins, stylist Neha Nambiar adds, “Whether you are wearing a suit or a floor- length gown, an important tip to keep in mind is to use tone- on- tone sequins, i.e. black on a black base, white on a white base and the like.. Matt sequenced dress are trending, so go get glamorous!”
