‘ Harrassmen­t of Indian diplomats in Pak still on’

Harassment of Indian diplomats in Islamabad continues unabated, with two more incidents on Monday following which India has clearly told Pakistan that “the safety and security of Indian High Commission, its officers, staff members and their families is the responsibi­lity of the Government of Pakistan”. New Delhi also told Islamabad that that such incidents are a violation of the Vienna Convention while demanding a probe. Indian Government sources said two Indian diplomats were followed aggressive­ly by two men in a car when they were on their way to a mall. Two other Indian diplomats in an official vehicle of the Indian High Commission were tailed by two people on a motorbike. Similar incidents of harassment also took place during the weekend as well.

Indian Government sources said, “On 19 March 2018, two officials of the High Commission went for shopping to Safa Gold Mall. They were aggressive­ly followed by two persons in a car ( Toyota Corolla) in close proximity at various locations. On 19 March 2018, two officials of the High Commission travelling in High Commission’s vehicle were aggressive­ly followed while going to Super Market for shopping by two unknown persons on a motorbike. The website of the High Commission of India continues to be intermitte­ntly blocked. This is causing inconvenie­nce and has affected normal functionin­g of the Mission.”
