A month- long mega programme of songs and dance, titled “Delhi’s Date with Democracy,” was launched on Monday, along with a huge wall screen that was installed at the Delhi Secretariat.

The festival aims to unravel the lives of unsung heroes of the national capital through multiple levels of singing and dancing events, thus providing a platform to aspiring singers and dancers. “The entire event format is democratically designed by way of the selection and judging processes.

Delhi’s Date with Democracy is an opportunity to sing, dance, and celebrate democracy while also providing a chance to the people to become Delhi’s next star,” said a statement by the government.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia also launched an app for the festival, where participants can send in their entries.

Briefing the media, Mr Sisodia said that the programme intends to provide a platform for the budding local talent to present their art to a larger audience.

“The theme for this year is celebrating the idea of democracy through public participation. The participants, selected from the app submissions, will get the chance to perform and compete at the ward level,” he said.

The winners will then progress to the Assembly level, followed by a district level event. The festival will conclude with a grand finale, where winners will have the opportunity to perform alongside the celebrity music artist, Sukhwinder.

“There is no age limit. The interested candidates can start sending their entries in both categories — singing and dancing — from Tuesday onwards.
