On Saturday, as Kangana Ranaut stepped on the Rising India Summit stage, the bold actress decided to pick up the microphone herself and start talking even before the anchor, Anuradha Sengupta, could kick- start the session. And when the latter finally got the chance to do her bit, Anuradha stated that Kangana “likes to be in charge all the time”.
The actress, who will next be seen in historical film Manikarnika, missed Smriti Irani’s speech at the summit but made it a point to watch Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address. She also warmly met minister of defence, Nirmala Sitharaman at the venue.
During her session, professing her love for the PM, the Queen actress said: “I am a big Modi fan. Unfortunately, I am not politically aware nor do I read the newspapers, which is not a good thing to do. For a success story and as a young woman, I believe that we need to have the right role models. We have a Prime Minister who is a chaiwala. It is not his victory, it is a victory of democracy. I feel he is the right role model.” Calling herself a nationalist who doesn’t believe in any religion, she stated, “I had never heard the word nationalism before. The good news is that someone is using this word now! I, as a youth, want to see growth in my life. If India does not grow, I don’t grow. I am an Indian, I was born as an Indian and I do not have any other identity in my life. If the national anthem is played, I will stand up.”
On the subject of the nepotism debate that was sparked following her appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show, Kangana clarified instantly, “Honestly, I did not think that it will become a national topic when I spoke about it. We grew up hearing this stuff. My own parents or relatives tell me ‘ woh file pe sign karva dena ( get those official documents signed somehow)’. For me, it was just an observation. Everyone was subconsciously observing it. And it became a catalyst when I said it on that popular show. Karan is so popular that it became a national debate.”
Talking about being let down in the alleged Hrithik Roshan affair, the 30- yearold said, “At every point you feel that you will be let down and you will never love again. I have been feeling like that since I was 16. I have had so many affairs; I’ve always felt that life has taken everything away from me and that I cannot fall in love again. Even after this thing ( the ‘ Hrithik affair’) fell apart, another man came into my life and I felt I couldn’t handle it anymore. But everything changed in two to three months and I felt that I was ready, and how!”
Kangana further shared that for her, love was not just about having a physical experience. “It has to be something beyond that and has to be an exceptional spiritual experience. But just when you feel you are so high in love, that person says, ‘ Oh, you are psycho!’ and that person also left. You burst into tears every time you kiss and you are called a psycho,” she added.
The actress also dynamically spoke her mind on Indian politics. “Politics has been misunderstood. If we don’t have a government or politics, we can’t govern this country. What I don’t like about politicians is their dress sense. I will not wear those clothes if I get into politics and I don’t think they are going to be okay with that. And the way I speak, I don’t think any party will be interested in hiring me,” she said.
But having set the agenda and putting her rules on the table, we won’t be surprised if ‘ some’ party approaches her in the near future.
