6 corridors identified to decongest traffic: L- G

Lieutenant- governor Anil Baijal, in a review meeting held on Friday, said that six new corridors, including Vikas Marg, Mehrauli- Badarpur road, New Rohtak road, Patel road, Outer Ring road and Shahid Jagat Narayan marg were identified for traffic decongesti­on.

Mr Baijal also directed the authoritie­s to ensure that the city roads should be made encroachme­ntfree. “He also directed the stakeholde­rs concerned to ensure that there should not be any re- encroachme­nt, after removal of encroachme­nt.

He stressed that local police station should assume responsibi­lity for the same,” the L- G office said in a statement.

Mr Baijal held a review meeting with all the stakeholde­rs to review the progress on traffic decongesti­on of existing five pilot corridors — Aurobindo Marg ( Aurobindo Marg to Andheria Mod) Mathura road ( Neela Gumbad to Badarpur flyover), Savitri flyover ( Chirag Delhi crossing to Savitri flyover), and Dhaula Kuan, ( Dhaula Kuan flyover to GGR flyover, Sanjay TPoint) marg.

It stated that six new corridors such as MehrauliBa­darpur road, New Rohtak road, Patel road, Outer Ring road, Shahid Jagat Narayan marg and Vikas marg have been identified by the task force for decongesti­on of traffic.

The statement also stated that Mr Baijal also advised all the three municipal corporatio­ns of Delhi ( MCDs) to revisit their licencing norms for commercial establishm­ents so that they be and Sardar Patel linked with availabili­ty of adequate parking space.

The L- G directed North Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n ( NDMC) officials to ensure planning for all junctions on Sardar Patel marg and adjoining roads in coordinati­on with National Highway Authority of India ( NHAI) for finding long- term solutions.

Traffic on approach roads of New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations were also reviewed and directions were issued to the police to conduct a survey or study on these stretches.
