6 inhale poisonous gas in tank, die

Kolkata: Six labourers died after inhaling poisonous gas aparently while cleaning an abandoned tank at a papermill at Naihati in North 24 Parganas. The victims were Uday Raj, Mithun prajapati, Nazim, Bijya Bakshi, Ravi Shankar and Ashok Boral. They went to clean the steam tank of Indian Pulp & Paper factory at Hajinagar on Thursday evening. They however fell ill at around 8 pm while working. Two of the six labourers were taken out. They were taken to Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital in Kalyani of Nadia where they were declared brought dead. On Friday morning bodies of four others were recovered. All the bodies were sent for post- mortem. Many workers accused the factory authoritie­s of negligence.
