6 in­hale poi­sonous gas in tank, die

Kolkata: Six labour­ers died af­ter in­hal­ing poi­sonous gas aparently while clean­ing an aban­doned tank at a pa­per­mill at Nai­hati in North 24 Par­ganas. The vic­tims were Uday Raj, Mithun pra­jap­ati, Nazim, Bi­jya Bak­shi, Ravi Shankar and Ashok Bo­ral. They went to clean the steam tank of In­dian Pulp & Pa­per fac­tory at Ha­ji­na­gar on Thurs­day evening. They how­ever fell ill at around 8 pm while work­ing. Two of the six labour­ers were taken out. They were taken to Jawa­har Lal Nehru Memorial Hospi­tal in Kalyani of Na­dia where they were de­clared brought dead. On Fri­day morn­ing bod­ies of four oth­ers were re­cov­ered. All the bod­ies were sent for post- mortem. Many work­ers ac­cused the fac­tory au­thor­i­ties of neg­li­gence.
