2 Ambedkar statues damaged in UP towns

◗ Mayawati accused Yogi government of promoting casteism and pursing antidalits policies

Two statues of dalit icon B. R. Ambedkar were found vandalised on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad and Siddhartha Nagar districts.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered strict action against the miscreants in both the cases and has asked all officials to take necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

BSP president Mayawati blamed the Yogi Adityanath government for these incidents. In a statement, she said that the laxity of the state government was responsibl­e for allowing such incidents to take place. She also accused the state government of pursing anti- dalits policies. The statue of Dr Ambedkar was found broken in Jhusi area in Allahabad on Saturday morning. The head of the statue had been broken. In Gohaniya in Siddhartha Nagar, another statue of Dr Ambedkar was found vandalised. Local MLA Raghvendra Pratap Singh alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched by the SP and the BSP.

Newly- elected Phulpur MP Nagendra Singh Patel ( SP) marched to the spot of the incident with his supporters and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and the replacemen­t of the statue.

Tension prevailed in the area and SP( trans Ganga) Sunil Singh said that additional forces had been deployed.

SSP Akash Kulhari said that the statue was being replaced.

Meanwhile, another statue of Dr Ambedkar was found vandalised in Gohaniya in Siddhartha Nagar.

Dumariagan­j MLA, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, who rushed to the village soon after the incident, alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched by the Samajwadi Party and the BSP and the culprits will not be spared.
