Eastern Sporting clinch 4th straight win

Sethu FC defeated Rising Student Club 2- 0 to register their second win in the Indian Women’s League at Shillong, on Monday.

Bangladesh striker Sabina Khatun struck in the 47th minute before Manisha doubled the lead in the 90th minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Earlier, Eastern Sporting Union kept their 100 per cent record intact with a 2- 0 victory over Gokulam Kerala FC.

This was Eastern Sporting Union’s fourth win in a many matches and took their tally to 12 points.

Mandakini opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Kamala Devi doubled the lead in the 50th minute.

Eastern Sporting Union came into the match on back of three victories while Gokulam Kerala FC had thumped Indira Gandhi ASE 6- 1 in their previous encounter. Gokulam won a couple of corners with ESU’s Kamala combining with Prameshwor­i to have a go at the goal.

The breakthrou­gh came in the 24th minute when Mandakini struck from outside the box. Her shot from 30 yards out found the far post corner.

The second half saw ESU doubling their lead as Kamala struck in the 50th minute. Her curling left footer handed the reigning champions full points.

Eastern Sporting Union will face Kryhpsa while Gokulam square off against India Rush SC.

In the other match, Rising Student Club showed early promise. Anju Tamang saw her shot go just wide in the second minute before Sanju shot it straight to Sowmiya in the fifth.

Rising kept up the pressure with Pyari coming close with her header in the 38th minute before Sanju’s shot was saved just before half- time.

In the second half, Indumathi’s defence- splitting pass found Sabina Khatun, who put Sethu ahead in the 47th minute.

With the clock ticking, Rising drove forward in numbers but a goal remained elusive. With the team playing a high line, it left them vulnerable to counter attacks and Manisha utilised one such opportunit­y to score in the 90th minute.

Later, Kryhpsa continued their unbeaten run with a 2- 0 win over India Rush SC.

Captain Bala Devi drew first blood in the 21st minute with a header before she doubled the lead in the 61st minute.

The win took Kryhpsa to seven points from three matches while India Rush SC are yet to register a single point.
