‘ Musharraf sold Pakistanis for dollars’

Former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf secretly handed over hundreds of Pakistanis to other countries for dollars, the head of Missing Persons Commission and chairman National Accountabi­lity Bureau ( NAB) Javed Iqbal said Monday.

Briefing the committee, Javed Iqbal revealed that former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao — who served under Mr Musharaf — gave around 4,000 Pakistanis to foreigners secretly. He said that without any agreement, those Pakistanis were handed over to foreigners for money.

He further revealed that anti- Pakistan agencies had been involved in disappeara­nces of Pakistanis operating under the garb of Non- Government­al Organizati­ons ( NGOs).

He further said that many NGOs receive foreign funding and work on foreign agenda. He gave the example of Shakeel Afridi to judge the character of NGOs operating in

Pakistan.

Meanwhile on Monday, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees ( UNHCR) has declared Pakistan as the largest country for giving shelter to refugees in the world and most of the refugees were belonging to Afghanista­n.

As per the UNHCR report, Pakistan was hosting the largest number of refugees in the country and as many as 1.45 million were hailed from Afghanista­n.

The report added that Pakistan unconditio­nally hosted millions of refugees and provided best possible facilities to these affected people of different countries especially Afghan citizens when the war was on peak in it and still 1.45 million were living in Pakistan. Pakistan continued hosted Afghan refugees for more than three decades, it said.
