Ahlawat, Kartikeya send LBS Club into last 16

A quickfire knock by Mohit Ahlawat ( 78 not out) and leftarm spinner Kartikeya’s 4/ 38 enabled LB Shastri Cricket Club beat Food Corporatio­n of India by seven wickets to enter the prequarter­final of the 28th all- India Volga Om Nath Sood Memorial cricket tournament at the Pitampura grounds in the capital on Tuesday.

Put in to bat, FCI were bundled out for 130 in 34 overs as Kartikeya and Nitin Tanwar ( 2/ 23) shared the spoils for LB Shastri Club.

For FCI, skipper Chetan Sharma scored 41 runs.

Chasing 131, LB Shastri Club were put under pressure by Delhi Ranji offie Pulkit Narang ( 3/ 23) who dismissed Unmukt Chand ( 9), Vikas Dixit ( 2) and Jonty Sidhu ( 2) to have the team at 24/ 3 in 5.1 overs.

Therafter Ahlawat and Tanwar ( 41 n. o.) put on an unbeaten 107 runs in 86 balls for the fourth wicket to take their team home. Ahlawat’s 44 ball knock was studded by five sixes and seven fours.

Kartikeya and Ahlawat was jointly adjudged man of the match.

In another match at the St. Stephen’s College grounds, Ram Pal Cricket Academy hammered Friends Cricket Club by 108 runs.

Batting first, Ankur Kaushik struck 64 runs in 36 balls and Punit Bisht added 54 as RPCA raised 272/ 8 in 40 overs.

Vaibhav Rawal ( 51) and Vaibhav Sharma ( 49) were other notable run- getters from the side. Varun Pal ( 2/ 63) and Akash Rawat ( 2/ 42) were successful bowlers for Friends C. C.

Chasing, Friends Cricket Club folded up for 164 in 34 overs as Rahul Mishra, Vishal Chaudhary and Himanshu Bisht took two wickets each for RPCA. Gaurav Gautam remained unbeaten on 45 off 47 balls.

Kaushik was adjudged man of the match.

Ram Pal Cricket Academy 272/ 8 in 40 overs ( Ankur Kaushik 64, Punit Bisht 54, Vaibhav Rawal 51, Vaibhav Sharma 49, Akash Rawat 2/ 42, Varun Pal 2/ 63) beat Friends Cricket Club 164 in 34 overs ( Gaurav Gautam 45 not out, Rahul Mishra 2/ 19, Vishal Choudhary 2/ 30, Himanshu Bisht 2/ 34).
