DTC driver shot dead by cabbie over old enmity

In a suspected case of personal enmity, another shoot- out took place when three men allegedly pumped six bullets into a DTC bus driver on late Sunday night in Najafgarh area.

While the preliminary probe suggested that it was a gangwar, it was later learnt that two drivers had some personal enmity. The main accused has been arrested in this connection.

As per the preliminary probe, for the past six months, the cab driver harboured enmity with DTC bus driver, Jitendra, 27, over ferrying of passengers. The enmity grew steadily and ended when Jitendra was shot six times by a rival gang.

The police said that Jitendra died after receiving three bullets, but the assailants to make sure that he is dead, shot him three more times.

Baba Haridas Nagar police arrested Sudhir, a cab driver, on Monday. In his confession statement, he allegedly said that he and the deceased got into a ugly spat six months

ago. In a drunken quarrel, the two fought over ferrying of passengers. Sudhir was upset that the deceased used to take all his passengers in his bus and nobody came in his cab.

Since then Sudhir wanted to take revenge on Jitendra and on Sunday night at 11.40 pm, Sudhir along with two others, identified by him as Sanjay and Sumit, armed with weapons, intercepted Jitendra at Jhorada bus stand, said the police.

When the deceased was returning back home at around 9.30 pm, Sudhir and his friends waylaid him and fired at him. The assailants allegedly shot eight rounds of fire, while two missed.

The police launched a manhunt to nab Sumit, who is said to have many cases against him, the police added.
