Mufti condemns civilian killings

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has asked the police to take “legal cognisance” against the driver of its ‘ bunker vehicle’ which ran over a youth during a stone- pelting incident in Srinagar’s Noorbagh area on Saturday.

She also condemned the murder of three civilians by suspected militants in the Valley’s Bandipore and Baramulla districts and said that all shades of opinion must rise to the occasion and help towards ending the wanton killings and bloodshed in Kashmir.

The CM said that she strongly condemns the killing of three civilians in Hajin ( Bandipore) and Sopore ( Baramulla) during the past 24 hours and reiterates such acts serve nobody’s interests but are plunging the state into uncertainty and chaos. “Whose interests are we serving by killing these civilians than plunging our society into chaos and uncertainty,” she asked.

She asserted that the need of the hour is to get J& K out of the“vortex of violence” for which she asked all shades of opinion to rise to the occasion. She conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that the CM, taking strong note of the death of a youth at Noorbagh, Srinagar, after he was hit by police vehicle, has directed the police “to take legal cognisance of the incident and punish the people involved in the incident”.
