1 arrested as cops bust cartel, ` 20cr heroin recovered
A team of Delhi police has busted an international drug cartel and arrested a Nigerian national, a key member of the cartel, and recovered four kg of high- grade heroin worth 20 crore in the international market from his possession.
The arrested accused was identified as Oliver Chijike Iheanacho ( 40), residing in village Hastal, Uttam Nagar. He was arrested from Majnu Ka Tila on Monday.
Following his arrest, he disclosed that apart from Indians, persons of Afghanistan and African origin are also part of the drug cartel, said the police.
The police said that during surveillance, it was revealed that members of this drug cartel are involved in supply of high- grade heroin in Delhi, NCR and Punjab. Heroin is smuggled to India from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The raid took place following a tip- off that a person of African origin involved in supply of heroin would come near Majnu Ka Tila to deliver a consignment to a Punjabbased drug dealer.
A trap was laid for the said person by the police near Majnu Ka Tila. When the accused started to move after waiting in vain but he was appr, the police surrounded him and arrested him. During a search, 4 kg of highgrade heroin was recovered from his bag.
During interrogation, Iheanacho disclosed that he used to receive heroin from his associates based in Afghanistan, which was then smuggled to India through Pakistan and J& K.
These couriers used to hand over the drug to him in Delhi, which was further supplied to drug dealers in Delhi and Punjab. He also used to get consignment of drugs from his Africa- based associates for clients residing in Delhi. He also disclosed that he used to send heroin consignments to countries such as UK, France, Canada and South Africa through courier.
