Baby escapes kidnap bid, grandfather, uncle held

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

In an alleged clash between two families, an attempt was made to abduct a minor girl by her uncle right outside the Karkardooma family court on Tuesday noon.

According to the complainant, an abduction attempt was made on the two- and- half- year- old girl by none other than her uncle and grandfather. However, they ran out of luck when some advocates found them escaping with the girl and saved her in the nick of time.

Police said the two families were at the court following a dispute over the compensation, which was allegedly to be given to the minor’s mother after her father allegedly committed suicide about one and a half months ago. The two families were fighting the issue at the Karkardooma family court.

Before the hearing on Tuesday, they were allegedly involved in a verbal spat that later spiralled into an assault. In the melee, the grandfather and uncle, seeing the minor girl unaccompanied, grabbed her, clutched her under their arms and tried to flee. However, the alert advocates present in the court saved the girl and handed over the duo to the police.

Charges of attempt to kidnap and assault were pressed upon the duo and they were arrested. Police said they tried to mislead by allegedly stating that the girl wanted to go with them. Upon checking the CCTV cameras, their lie was exposed and the two were arrested.
